Elegant backpack made from recycled hessian rice sacks and up-cycled tyres with fabric lining. These shallow backpacks have adjustable shoulder straps with clips, a large internal and a large external pocket. As the hessian is recycled there is sometimes some printing visible on the hessian, it may not be uniformly brown in colour, this is not easy to photograph, but we think adds to the uniqueness of each bag.
Beni Handicrafts was started by Beni Ghale, a health worker and prison social worker - with the intention of providing work, income and education to Nepalese women in need. All of Beni's handicrafts are made using waste products such as old rubber from tyres, crisp packets and old plastic food wrappers. Beni and her team then turn these waste items into high quality, functional and fashionable items.
From the label: "Beni and her ladies collect potato crisp, chocolate and noodle wrappings off the streets, cinemas and along the mountain trails of Nepal. They collect synthetic rice-bags from hotels and rubber inner tubes from garages. From this waste they create a collection of fashionable and functional products, giving a "second life" to rubbish. Beni products are made by women forced to move from the outlaying hill districts to the city. Your purchase provides an important source of income for them and their family.Thank You."
